Mother a la Mode

Who say that moms can't have style?  This mother of three still has time to put herself together!

She is wearing a put together, yet modest, outfit.  It is super cute.

Unfortunately, J. Crew no longer makes that shirt, but you can find the Trompe L'oeil Bow Tee, which isn't as cute, but will have to do.  For the skirt, Anthropologie carries a similar one dubbed the Rock Slide Skirt.  And you can purchase a Lauren by Ralph Lauren Woven Belt at Nordstrom's.

Perfect Night Out

While eating at one of my favorite resturaunts, I saw someone wearing such a cute outfit!Floral prints are currently in vogue and I love the way that this outfit looks.

People had been wearing calico with small flowers on the fabric for years, but it is not what we today would consider a floral print.  Floral prints first became popular in the 1920s, when they started to be used on the exterior of the clothing instead of the inside.  But they really became the "it thing" in the 1950s, when French designers covered their dresses in prints of foliage.  This year, many designers used floral prints in their collections and many have worn vintage style floral prints.

You can buy a similar skirt at Abercrombie and Fitch, called the "Lucy", for $50.  At J. Crew, you can find a tissue pleated top which gives the same effect as the shirt worn in the picture for $45.  If you look closer, you can also tell that she is wearing a Tiffany's key necklace which everyone can twist a little because there are so many.  And for shoes, which got chopped out of the photo, she is wearing shoes almost identical to Steve Madden's "Mischief" shoes.

This outift is a great outfit to have around.  First of all, every component and piece of this outfit can be dressed up or down.  This outfit is also versatile.  You can wear it out.  You can wear it to a party.  You can wear it to anything business casuall.  It's cute and won't just sit in your closet.  Overall, it's a good buy and cute outfit.

Matching Lilly Girls

Lilly Pulitzer is renowned for their bright colors and shifts.  They are classics that you will force your daughters to wear and they will force their kids to wear.  For some, they are magnificent, but for others, they are an, uh, acquired taste.

Shift dresses have been worn since the 1920s, when flappers wore them.  They are comfortable and easy to dance in, which was a plus for many women.  Michelle Obama, Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Kennedy are famous for wearing shifts.

Lilly was founded by Lilly Pulitzer, a former New York socialite who moved to Palm Beach.  her ex-husband, who was still married to her then, owned citrus groves.  Lilly opened a juice stand, squeezing her husband's fruits.  She found that the juice would squirt all over her dress, so she asked her dressmaker to make a brightly colored dress that could be worn on hot days.  She invented the first Lilly dress.  More people like Ms. Pulitzer's dress more than the juice at the stand.  She asked her tailor for more like those and soon started a business.  But it really picked up when Lilly's old friend Jacky Kennedy wore it.

This season, a favorite (non-patchwork) Lilly dress is the "Little Lilly Shift Giddy Up".  It has the same white lace on the collars and the same blue-sy background.  It is a from the 1959-ish Collection, a selection of updated vintage Lilly dresses.  The dress features women in big hats with drinks and men in suits, it is inferred that they are at a derby or horse race.

Isn't it adorable?
